His Story (Old Man)
His story (Old Man) is a an asset creation for a game project called His Story. The game has a pixelated art style heavily inspired by the game One Shot. This asset aims to create the same look as the characters from One Shot.
REFERENCES
The asset aims to create the same look from the characters in One Shot, hence, a reference image of the lamplighter greatly helps. One Shot characters do not have shading that is too intensive, with at most 3 different color ranges for shading. This gives One Shot its unique look when paired up with its pixelated design.
The old man in His Story is homeless and stuck in a colder climate. Hence this reference helps to give an idea what kind of outfit the old man would wear.
Doing a pixelated look is something I'm not familiar with, and the video helps me by teaching me some of the tools Photoshop offers to pixelate a drawing that is non pixelated.
SKETCHING
The first sketch created a good look for the old man, but the outfit didn't feel suitable for a cold location. The second sketch refines the old man's hair and face while also fixing the outfit issue with a 2 layer outfit and a beanie.
LINING AND COLORING
In order to fit the art style of One Shot, the lining and coloring are done on the same layer as the lines are not black, but the color on the character.
PIXELATING
